Common Interview Questions for Writers

These are common questions I’ll be asking authors that I interview on my podcast. Of course, the interview will not be limited to these. These are just to get the conversation started. Please let me know if there are additional questions you’d like me to ask or if you’d like me to avoid any particular question. Feel free to talk about just one of your books or many of them.

  • Give me the one sentence pitch (log line) for your book.
  • Give me a brief synopsis of your book (like on the back cover).
  • What demographic is your book written for?
  • What inspired you to write the book?
  • Are you a character in the book? If so, who?
  • Tell me about one of your favorite characters in the book.
  • What are some of the themes you explore in your book?
  • What real-world applications does your book have?
  • Tell me about one of your favorite scenes in the book.
  • Tell me about your writing process. Did you face any challenges?
  • What advice do you have for prospective authors?
  • Let’s face it: young readers are bombarded with work, school, and countless distractions. Especially when there’s so many other books out there, why should someone pick up yours?
  • Any upcoming projects?
  • How can fans connect to you or learn more?
