Tonight was my company’s party. We went ice skating, and we won a Kindle Fire. I’m grateful for the prize, though I’m probably going to sell it. This new age of “media consumption” boggles me. How could anyone consider a personal computer without a physical keyboard of any real value? I’m not something to be acted upon, I’m something to act. I don’t want to consume media, I want to create media. I have a lot of beef with Amazon and Apple and every other company that tries to micromanage my computing experience. Hardware needs to divorce itself from software before the conflicts of interests will end, and people like me can just get things done. To me this whole movement towards tablet computers and cloud computing is evidence that people no longer know what to do with their lives. They’ve forgotten how to think.
